Hishikawa Moronobu was born at Hota, now Kyonan-machi in Chiba Pref. in around 1630 and passed away in 1694.
He is the pioneer of the genre paintings of Ukiyo-e. He is called "A Father of Ukiyo-e"
He enhanced the value of illustration pictures by massproducing and popularizing woodblock printed pictures.
One of the famous works is "Looking-back beauty" which is now in the Tokyo National Museum in Ueno,Tokyo.
In front of the museum, you see a big hung-up bell that he donated to his family temple.
