Chiba City Museum of Art

*It is located in a fifty-minute-JR train ride and a 15-minute walk, from Narita International Airport. You'll get off at JR Chiba station.



It has been enriching collections mainly based on three directives:

"Artworks related to Chiba City and Boso Area"

"Japanese paintings and prints from the 17th century to the early 20th centuries"

and "Contemporary art since 1945".


The collection spans a broad range of media and periods from tea ceremony utensils to Ukiyo-e (Woodblock prints). The number of the collections mounts to 10,000.


In the exhibition room, displays are changed about every other month , while contemporary art displays are changed about every three months.


It houses works of Jakuchu, Hokusai, Utamaro,Kuniyoshi, Harunobu, Toyokuni, Sogano Hyouhaku, and so on in the genre paintings of Ukiyo-e, and of Higashiyama Kaii, Rosetsu, and so on in the genre of Japanese paintings.

It houses works of Munakata Shikou, Hamaguchi Youzou, Kusama Yayoi, Georges Bigot, and so on in the genre of modern Art.


★The special exhibition selected from collections is now on view from Apr.7 ~ May 5.

It includes Ukiyo-e and modern prints from the 17th to the early 20th centuries by Moronobu Hishikawa, Shiko Mikuma, Roko Mikuma, Kiyotaka Kaburaki, and so on under the theme of "Enjoying Spring" and by Moronobu Hishikawa, Kiyonaga Torii, Kuniyoshi Utagawa, Harunobu Gakutei, Yoshitoshi Tsukioka, Shigemasa Kitao, Hokkei Totoya, Saburosuke Okada, and so on under the theme of " Telling Stories".

It also exhibits the newly acquired oil paintings and calligraphy by Kazumasa Nakagawa. (1893~1991)



★The special exhibition selected from collections is now on view from Mar. 2 to Apr. 4

It includes Japanese paintings and woodblock prints from the 17th to the early 20th centuries by Rosetsu Nagasawa, Shunsou Katsukawa, Sansetsu Kanoh, Utamaro Kitagawa, Kunisada Utagawa, Harunobu Suzuki, Helen Hyde under the theme of "Paradise on earth" or "Joy of Spring"

It also exhibits the newly acquired oil paintings and calligraphy by Kazumasa Nakagawa.

Unfortunately the exhibition is over.




It enjoys high reputation of special exhibitions.

*The works byTanaka Isson who was born in Chiba is now on exhibition.(Jan. 5 ~ Feb.28)

*27th Biennale of Illustrations Bratislava in Japan is now on exhibition. (Jan.5 ~ Feb.28)

Unfortunately these exhibitions are over.



*After viewing the exhibitions, how about having lunch at Seizan with a good view

on the top floor.

It is open 11:30 ~ 14:30.

The menu has only two meals.

They are very good with tasty ingredients and seasoning.



This one is 1980 yen. The other is 1430 yen.












*On the first floor you'll enjoy tea time with sandwiches, toast and so on, on a comfortable sofa at Cafe de Seizan.

It is open 10:30 ~ 16:00.





*Why don't you drop in SAKARI bar located underground and drink Sake with reasonable price? They serve wide variety of local Sake.






You can visit there without visiting the museum.


*It is in a 10-minute walk from East exit of Keisei Chibachuo station.

*It is in a 7minute walk from Yoshikawakoen station on the Chiba Urban Monorail.
